I saw the story online last Friday and I started looking into it and apparently it’s true – a grand jury indicted Governor Rick Perry for misuse of government property (count 1) and use of his veto power as coercion (count 2).
The issue concerns the fact that the District Attorney of Travis County, Rosemary Lehmberg was arrested for drunk driving on
April 12, 2013.
Videos of her arrest from the Deputies dashcam and her behavior in the
jail during the booking process found here:
At some point after the arrest, Governor Perry indicated that he wanted Ms. Lehmberg to resign as District Attorney. Lehmberg refused and is still serving Travis County as District Attorney. Apparently, the governor then threatened to withhold funding of the Public Integrity Unit of the Travis County District Attorney’s Office [of which Lehmberg is the figurehead] if she did not resign. And therein lies the crux of the indictment against the governor.

Just my opinion, but neither of these politicians nor their parties (Republic Perry and Democrat Lehmberg) are highlighted well. As a friend of mine used to say, “never get in a pissing contest with a skunk.”
None of this is funny since the taxpayer has paid for Lehmberg’s arrest and jail time as well as Perry’s Grand Jury indictment. Well, there is something funny – that the word integrity appears in the title of a governmental agency.
